Saying “It’s Over” the Easiest Way Possible

James Ingram was right. There’s just no easy way to break somebody’s heart, even if it’s just a commitment done online. By now, you may have already invested time, emotions, and even money to someone you know is very special. But then again, you have to realize that sometimes the best thing to do is to say, “It’s over.”

You can probably ease out the pain if you can do the following:

1. Always be honest. There are truths that hurt, but you know that telling a lie wouldn’t do both of you good either. Whatever the reason is why you have to say quits, make sure that you have told your partner about it.

2. Don’t delay it. If you think that there’s no other direction that your relationship is taking but on the dead end, better say that it’s over right now. The more that you prolong it the more you will invest more into the relationship. There are even times when you will be feeling guilty, knowing that in the end you’ll still be leaving your partner. If you want to get rid of any more complications and pain, make it very soon.

3. Listen to what your partner has to say about the situation. As they say, it takes two to tango. Even if it’s you who may have initiated the breakup, you still owe it to your partner that he or she be heard. By that time, he/she will be asking a lot of questions, and you definitely need to answer them so there will be no loose ends after that.

4. Don’t expect that both of you will be friends. No matter how much you say that both of you will become friends after the breakup, it’s never going to happen anytime soon. Your ex-partner definitely needs a time to understand everything that has happened and moved on with his/her life. Learn to give him/her space.

5. Avoid any form of communication. You have to accept the fact that everything isn’t the way they used to be. As much as possible, avoid answering any of the phone calls, e-mails, or text messages. It will be the best thing for both of you to do. You’re not going to help your ex-partner to move on, and you will constantly feel guilty for what you’ve done.

Indeed, a breakup is a very painful process. Nevertheless, learn to nurture the experience and make it a good encouragement for you to become a much better person.
