Avoid Dating Traps: Five Tips to Be Safe
Though online dating has its own perks, there are also a number of disadvantages. Perhaps one of the worst is the fact that anyone can just disguise himself/herself online. In fact, there are a lot of cases of kidnapping and sexual abuse that started in the World Wide Web.
Take note of the following suggestions once you will be out on your first date:
1. Avoid meeting him in secluded places. You may have talked to him quite a few times, but it is never an assurance that he is a good person. When you are going to be meeting him, make sure that it is going to be in a public place, perhaps your favorite café. If he insists, then you better cancel everything. Keep in mind that your safety should be your number one priority.
2. Bring someone along with you, whenever possible. A true-blue gentleman would not really mind having a chaperone around, if it is going to make you feel comfortable. Before you agree on a date, make sure that you inform him that you are going to take along a friend or a family member with you. It is also great so you can have someone advise you if your date is worth another meeting or not.
3. Don’t drink. If you can’t help it, don’t drink when you’re still out on your first date. Alcohol can definitely affect your judgment or decision and can even release you from your inhibition. Besides, a cup of coffee or a glass of juice wouldn’t really have profound effect on your date, would they?
4. Always be very cautious. Never let your guard down once you have met the person on your first date. It doesn’t even matter if he’s a good talker or not. Unless you have spent considerable time with him, you can never really sure if what he tells in his profile is actually true or not.
5. Inform someone the name of your date and where you have gone. If you’re bent on going out on your first date alone, you may at least like to inform somebody, perhaps a friend or a family member, who your date is and where the two of you will be going. You can also set a schedule when they can call you just to make a follow-up. This way, you have every reason to go home at a safe time. |
